Training from the Missionary Department in Utah...April 19-20, 2017

 This training that we had from Ben Metcalf last week was so good 

and greatly appreciated!  He started out using the scriptures 

D&C 88:117-126 and asked the question, "What does the Lord 

expect of me in the learning process?  How can I be an agent who 

acts rather than an object who is acted upon?  (2 Nephi 2:14)

Begin with the end in mind...which is Eternal life...the Atonement

of Jesus Christ...Doctrine of Christ....

We teach Repentance and Baptize Converts:

We Greet, Teach/Testify, Invite and Follow up

Moroni 7:41...Eternal life is the goal for all. What is the spirit
teaching me about my calling?  To be most diligent in preparing
in all aspects...especially my learning...feasting...Study better...
prioritize...feasting on His word! Practice and make lesson plans.

D&C 88:73...The Lord will hasten the work in his own due time.
One of the very important training he did was on how to give
presentations with and equal balance of History-Doctrine-People.
We're not a History Museum, but we're not teaching Sunday
School either and we've got to make it relevant to the people we
are teaching... He had them try some role play/practice.  After
training the first day, he stayed at the Visitors' Center and scheduled
working and practicing with individual companionships.  After
training the second day, he went to the Liberty Jail and did the training
with individual companionships. We learned a lot and we've already
seen improvement in out teaching as a whole.

Trip to Adam-ondi-Ahman and Far West, Missouri...

This is a semi-annual event for the Sisters and Senior couples 

working at the IVC and HLJ who haven't gone to Adam-ondi-Ahman.

We will probably take another trip in the fall and it will be a new

group that will go! It was wonderful trip!

We spent some time shopping in this old country store.  Sister 

Vest and I had a good time in there!

Dennis and LuAnn Ray's Visit...

Our Visit to Liberty Jail with the Rays:

This was a great way to spend our Easter Sunday!  We had a short

shift to work at the Historic Liberty Jail on Sunday and we took 

Dennis and LuAnn Ray with us!  They went on a tour with one

of our Sister Training Leader's at the Jail, Sister Rice, and George.

I stayed in the lobby to greet and visitors who came!  It was a

sweet experience for them, as it can be for all visitors!  We

also took them by the 8 Witnesses Monument near Liberty 

and the Kansas City Temple.  Beautiful!

We then, went to the Independence Visitors' Center where Sisters 

Davidson and Cammack took us on a tour through the History 

area of the Center.  They did wonderful job helping us feel the 

Spirit and have a deeper understanding of the great faith the early 

saints had in Jesus Christ in order to endure and carry on in spite of 

their difficulties.  We can do the same.  After that, we watched 

the two new Restoration videos, "Days of Harmony" and 

"Days for Eternity" and the short Easter video, "Prince Of Peace"!  

What wonderful films!  I'm so grateful for the restoration of the 

gospel of Jesus Christ and the hope and understanding it gives 

me in my life.  It was a wonderful Easter Celebration today 

with our dear friends and sweet missionaries!

Friday Night Out...

Why I Believe...

Elder and Sister Tefteller gave a presentation at our Friday 

Night Out fireside.  They are a senior couple in our mission. 

He is the Area Medical Advisor.  They often times will 

substitute at the Visitors' Center and Liberty Jail when needed.

They started the evening by singing a duet for the opening 

hymn, "Abide With Me; 'Tis Eventide" First, Sister Tefteller 

told stories of her life and how she acquired a strong testimony 

of the gospel.  She shared a story of when she was a single mom 

and was asked to come up and bear her testimony at a Stake 

Conference and she ended up getting permission to sing the

hymn, "I Stand All Amazed".  Neil A. Maxwell was a visiting 

apostle at the conference.  After the conference Elder Maxwell 

asked her why she was single and she told of her divorce.  And 

he commended her for her faith.  She said, "Oh, you know, I'm

just plugging along."  He responded, "No Sister, you are lighting

the way!"  She said she would never forget that experience and

it has been a strength to her since then.  She then sang, "I Stand 

All Amazed", which is one of my favorite hymns!  Elder Tefteller 

then stood and told experiences in his own life that gave him 

the strong testimony he has today.  He bore a strong witness 

of the Savior and of His doctrine and then closed with playing 

the guitar and singing all verses of the hymn, 

"A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief".  Great meeting!

Here's George and I with Sister and Elder Tefteller.  They have 

become our very good friends.  They are so much fun and so

willing to serve wherever they are needed!  She's a great 

cook and they love to have a monthly FHE for all the senior 

couples and she cooks a wonderful dinner for them each time!

It was a windy, rainy day!  I look like it!! LOL!

They had both served a mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where

our friends, Phil and Laurie Broadbent are the Mission 

President and wife.  It's such a small world.  We took this 

picture so they could send it to the Broadbents 

who are still serving there.

Weekly Training, April 6-7...

Training at Historic Liberty Jail

Spring is here!  The grass is green, the flowers and trees are

blooming, and the sun is shining!

Here's another angle of the HLJ... I didn't get a picture of the 

Sisters this time! :-(

The training here started with an opening hymn, "Abide with 

me Tis Eventide".  After announcements we had a "Doctrinal 

Insights" training by Sister Farnsworth.  The rest of the time 

was given to Elder Peterson to introduce some Lesson Plan 

Role Plays... The Sisters had been asked to make lesson plans

focussing on the exhibits in the History room for any and all 

visitors who come to the HLJ.  We had some interesting 

presentations to show how to use the exhibits to teach the history

and the doctrine we can draw from them.  It was really fun to 

see the different ways they teach from all the displays in that room!

We will continue that and they were asked to formulate lesson

plans for the Rotunda (where the jail exhibit is).  We've asked 

them to do their best to make their presentations relevant to the

visitors.  What is the message they can receive from the History?

For the training, after announcements, there was a training by

the Teaching Center sisters.  They explained how the Teaching 

Center works and how to set goals and record them along with

the actual achievements in all areas.  We then had a training from 

the Sister Training Leaders, Sisters Eraso and Giraud Carrier, on 

the Easter Initiative, Learn Principles of Peace from the 

#PRINCEofPEACE, and how to implement the ideas found on 

mormon.org... which are to help us focus on one of the eight 

principles (below) to honor Him and to find His peace in our lives.

There are wonderful true-life videos to go with each principle!

The STLs had some sisters demonstrate how to us the Initiative at

the Visitors' Center.  Sisters Lifferth and Larson did a really nice job

showing us how.  We then had Elder Peterson train us on the importance

in recognizing the Doctrine in the lessons we teach...using the quote

by President Boyd K. Packer, found in PMG, "True doctrine, 

understood, changes attitudes and behavior. The study of the doctrines 

of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a study of behavior 

will improve behavior."  He gave them ideas for studying the lessons 

in chapter 3 of PMG...1. Look for the doctrine found in each 

subheading, 2. Find good scriptures to help teach that doctrine, 

3. Think of inspiring questions along with stories/experiences to 

relate to the doctrine.  He gave and assignment to go to each of 

the areas of presentations at the VC and, with your companion, 

come up with lesson plans for each area.  Just like with lesson 

plans to each of your investigators will differ, you can plan for 

different kinds of visitors.  We don't want to make our presentations 

rote and impersonal.  The sisters were asked to bring their lesson 

plans next time we meet for training.  Companionships will be

randomly selected to practice teach.

HDTL (Historic Downtown Liberty) Promotion committee meeting today...

Promotion Meeting in Liberty

We have a good time at these meetings in Liberty.  It is a committee 

who plan events and different ways to promote the History Downtown

in Liberty, MO. ...To bring people Downtown to the businesses,

shops, museums, restaurants etc. Since our Historic Liberty Jail 

is there, we get invited to be on this committee.  For instance, they

just recently had a Wedding Expo event, Downtown Spring Open

House, Every 4th Friday of the month all business stay open until

9:00 pm, and the 10th Annual "A downtown Affair" with a fund-

raiser dinner and a Piccadilly Auction/Raffle of donated Items 

(Themed gift baskets, game or theater tickets, gift certificates, etc). I 

donated a basket of Home Decor theme, titled..."Making a House 

a Home". It included things for the home...a throw with bold letters 

of the scripture found in 3 John 1:4 "I HAVE NO GREATER JOY 

THAN TO HEAR THAT MY CHILDREN WALK IN TRUTH."; a 

nice picture of Christ; a Willow Tree statue, "Forget Me Not"; 

a plug-in Scensy type room fragrance; a set of coasters with the 

words,"Home is Where the Heart is"; a small floral arrangement;

 and other home decor items, along with "The Family...

Proclamation to the World" trifold pamphlet; "Three ways to a 

Happier Family" booklet; etc. Here's a picture...

Here we are visiting another BBQ place!  Jack's Stack!  We
had what they call, Burnt ends...beef and pork! Delicious!

Helpers...

These cute Sisters, Sister Bingham and Sister Soutas were good 

little helpers We put together some gift bags for a few classes of 

High School students who were studying World Religions.  

They also looked after my purse...

...And my phone, obviously!  They are so sweet and 

they sure are cute!!

General Conference at the Visitors' Center, April 1 - 2...

187th Semi-annual General Conference

It was so nice to view General Conference on a big screen!

Not too many people were aware that we showed all the sessions

here so the attendance is small!

Sister McDonald and her trainer, Sister Dawson and 

Elder Peterson are all watching Conference together! 

...We also have Sisters Rust and Bench watching with us!

Conference was wonderful!  There seemed to be a lot of 

emphasis of being true disciples and of recognizing and

using the influence of the Hoy Ghost in our lives... And

much, much more!  I love Conference!
